The staff were amazing and so friendly. The rooms are beautiful, large and clean.
We stayed in a one bedroom condo. Price was reasonable. Very clean, comfortable and relaxing. The unit was well designed and well appointed with necessary kitchen essentials, a small stovetop, microwave convection oven, Keurig, coffee maker and toaster. Television with cable channels in both the living room and the bedroom. A washer and dryer (on each floor) was available for our use as well. It was perfect and just what we needed for the night! Staff was very helpful as well. Self-serve continental breakfast items were available in the main level kitchen. Fabulous stay! Would highly recommend!
The rooms are very neat, very new, very fresh. It can be inconvenient at times but the comfort of the room makes up for it.

Great little hotel in Southport a few km South of Hwy 1, near Portage la Prairie. A bit out of the way. Always clean, super friendly staff.
I stayed at The Barker Hotel during a road trip. Dare I say, this is a hidden gem. The rooms are tidy and spacious, and the hotel is named after William George Barker, a decorated RCAF veteran who won the Victoria Cross. The only drawbacks are that there is no 24/7 check-in, and the beds are somewhat springy. That being said, these are easily overlooked -- especially considering the price!
The food at the mess hall was fabulous, chef was super friendly, the hall was clean and food is priced very cheap. I would call the mess hall a hidden jem. It a place I would recommend to anyone to go and try the food. The only issue I could mention is that we went after the Airforce Cadettes were off duty and there language was not the best, lots off cussing but if you go while they are on duty it's not an issue.
Ended up here because there were hockey and curling tournaments in portage la Prairie, so we couldn't get rooms there. It's well worth the extra ten minutes drive. It's a nice property with very functional space. Lots of 120v plugs, lots of storage, long desk, nice cookware that's not all beat up and worn out, like many places. Bed is comfortable and HVAC system and water heating is very good. There's a nice lounge/common area with a large tv for having out. Didn't get pics of that, cuz there were people hanging out, and that would be creepy.. Wasn't that busy when we were there, so lots of parking for our big truck. Was a very quiet property while we were there. I would definitely stay again.
